A map of New Zealand with hand-colouring over its coastline. Major settlements are underlined in pink, and the Canterbury region is shaded in light pink. North Island is given the alternative name of New Ulster, modern day South Island is given the names New Munster or Middle Island, and Steward Island is given the alternative names of New Leinster or South Island. Engraved views of Wellington harbour from the shore, a Maori, Mount Egmont, and Auckland are present, as is the Seal of New Zealand from 1852.
The scale bar is in miles, and Greenwich is used for the prime meridian; the scale was calculated from the map's scale bar and the coordinates were obtained via georeferencing.
