Washington, DC is used as the prime meridian. Bottom left, outside the neat lines: "Entered according to act of Congress, in the year 1850, by Thomas, Cowperthwait & Co. in the Clerk's office of the District court of the Eastern Dictrict of Pennsylvania".

An almost identical version of this map appears in various atlases (with various editions) attributed to Mitchell. The presence of 1851 after the publisher information however, appears distinctive to "Mitchell's New Atlas of North and South America" which was published only once.
